Wandering the streets of Ushuaia every time I am amazed by the seemingly messy street views of car wrecks and ramshackle structures. As in every big city, some areas host beautiful big houses with green lawns, neat streets and spectacular views. Nice to watch, but not that interesting. The main street is where the real pearls of creative home building are to be found. In Holland most streets look rather dull because of street commissions, that set the regulated standard (read: limitations), meaning that every house looks the same basically. In Ushuaia where nature, rocks and hills set the standard, inhabitants use these to their benefit; they make use of every spot that’s available and are using every material at hand to create their homes. Around every corner awaits another surprise.
